Mark Your Calendars: School Budget Brown Bag Lunch

Have you ever wished you had the time to fully understand our school district’s budget crisis?  The PTO is excited to welcome Karen Cruickshank, President of the T/E School Board and VFMS parent, who will be delivering a presentation entitled, “Success & Sustainability: A Plan for the T/E Community” that clearly outlines our district’s financial situation, including the fiscal pressures causing the projected $6.2 million deficit for 2012-2013 and the options
under consideration to balance the budget.  Learn it all during a convenient, 45 minute brown-bag lunch on Thursday, Feb. 2nd at 12 p.m. at VFMS.

PTO Finances – Where Does the Money Go?

I want to thank all of the parents who have contributed to the PTO through the Direct Donation Program.  If you have not done so, you still can.  We have a Pay Pal link set up on the PTO website.

The money you donate finances valuable educational, cultural and social programs at VFMS.  The majority of our budget goes to pay for cultural arts programs.  This year, we have provided fabulous presentations covering several genres:  Music (Ball in the House), Art (Mark Kistler), and Technology (Katie Koestner) and in March, Science in the Movies is coming to VFMS.  Your donations also fund the Golden Apple Grant Program, which supports outstanding and innovative programs, ideas and/or purchases that will enrich the educational experience at VFMS.  Through this program, the PTO has provided funds for everything from Legos and yarn, to scanners, a refurbished iPad and an Apple TV.  If you have any questions about the PTO budget, please feel free to email me at vfmsptopresident@gmail.com.

Thank you for your continued support.  Together, we help make VFMS a great school!

VFMS PTO President
